This introductory course follows historical developments in visual art in terms of technical advancement, philosophical approach and cultural impact; it will consider the role and function of art through those perspectives. The course introduces students to a range of methodologies and media used in art production. We will look at aspects of production and philosophy within historical and contemporary contexts. Particular emphasis will be placed upon developing an understanding of visual art production and its cultural significance. We will touch upon aesthetics as a way to assess visual art as a method of human communication.
